February '08

The sun has shone, and the fields have started to look greener. The first hawthorn burst into leaf before the end of the month, and the daffodils into flower, ready for a cheerful St David’s day.

The chickens have finally come into lay and we enjoyed our own fresh eggs in pancakes on Shrove Tuesday.

We have sold 17 of our breeding ewes to another local organic farmer, and they are still grazing here at Tyddyn Adda. They have all been scanned, and will be moved before lambing.

During a dry, frosty period we called in a contractor and old friend to open up tracks and clear brambles at our second patch of land – Ty’n y Coed. We still have three of the 2006 calves grazing there and we make daily visits to top up their haylage.
